Program Title:  Seeing Differently with Macro

Macro photography opens new worlds of details that often go unnoticed as we go about life.  As we concentrate on subjects that are close it’s easy to become fascinated with elements that we had never been aware of.  Recording those details often becomes a first method of doing macro photography.  But working closeup, or at 1:1 magnification or even closer, actually opens all sorts of possibilities for images, depending on whether we focus on subject, color, shapes, lines, patterns or texture.  Images might be realistic or quite abstract, or somewhere in-between depending on your vision.

In this talk Ellen will cover some thoughts for creating macro images that go beyond documenting the object, some related to the gear you use, and some related to how you use that equipment. She’ll show you how she goes about working with flowers to create artistic images as well as suggesting a couple of exercises to help you see colors, shapes and lines more than just an identified label of a subject.
