Sometimes You Find Weird Things When Out Shooting

I was scouting for subjects to shoot at one of my local parks, Stony Creek Metro Park, Shelby Twp. MI when I came across this tree trunk on the ground with some unusual green stuff growing on it.  

I had never seen anything like it before.  Looks like tiny little green trumpets covered in dew popping out of the base.  Got out my 18-400 lens on my Nikon D7000 and shot some close-ups.  f/stop set to my usual f/32 for max depth of field. I went back to that same spot a year later and the little trumpets were gone. Glad I got to shoot them when I did.
