The Fine Art Print: John Gregor

The print process can appear to be a dauntingly complex challenge, but most photographers’ needs are deceivingly simple-they just want to make good-looking prints from their images. This presentation is an in-depth look at the process of making high-quality fine art prints. Gregor will discuss his digital image workflow, from maximizing the quality of the digital original to massaging pixels to perfect tone, color, and sharpness using Lightroom, or Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Photoshop. He will demonstrate his digital workflow from Raw conversion to finishing techniques in Photoshop including digital burning and dodging techniques, output sharpening, monitor calibration, and color matching for fine art prints. His presentation is refreshingly straightforward and practical yet precise for the most demanding fine art photographer.

Bio: John Gregor has a Masters of Education through St. Scholastica College with an emphasis in photographic literacy. He earned his BA from the University of Minnesota with a degree through the University Without Walls program, his degree was entitled “Documentary Expression of American Culture Through Photography”.  His work has been published in numerous books and many regional and national magazines. Gregor has shown his fine art prints at the: Minneapolis Art Institute, The Tweed Museum, The Minnesota Museum and many other fine galleries. Gregor spends most of his time in Two Harbors MN, Bluff Utah, or traveling throughout Mexico. He runs ColdSnap Photography, a photography studio specializing in: location, travel, nature photography and photographic education. Gregor offers photographic tours and workshops in Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States.
