Time for Stream Ice

Sunday, December 12, 2021 | By: Mike Moats Photography

Mid to the end of December is when the temps here in Michigan dip low enough to freeze the edges of the streams at one of the local parks near my home.  The first sign of the ice is when the best patterns are formed.

Here is one of the three streams that I visit at Stony Creek Metro Park in search of the ice abstracts.

My lens for shooting the ice is the Tamron 18-400, which allows me to reach out a distance from the edge where I'm set up.

My f/stops are usually around f/16.  I like shooting on the cloudy days rather than sunny days.

Check out some of my past ice abstracts.
